At Cremorne Physio, we provide the following services for pre and post natal patients:

During pregnancy:

  • Assessment, treatment and management of musculoskeletal injuries associated with pregnancy (e.g. pelvic or lower back pain). To accommodate women throughout their pregnancy we have specialised  pillows that can be used until term for massage and soft tissue management if required. 

  • 1on1 or small group physiotherapist guided exercise (formally known as Clinical Pilates) including pelvic floor strengthening.

Post Natal:

  • Assessment, treatment and management of musculoskeletal injuries (e.g. back or neck pain, wrist and shoulder injuries). 

  • Return to exercise assessment (including postnatal abdominal separation check).

  • 1on1 or small group physiotherapist guided exercise (formally known as Clinical Pilates).

 

Our physio, Lisa Zelenka, has further training in Women’s Health. A physiotherapist working in women’s health includes the evaluation, treatment and education of women throughout the stages of life. She has a particular interest in prevention and management of pre and post natal injuries.

 

Women with uncomplicated pregnancies should be encouraged to engage in aerobic and strength-conditioning exercises before, during and after pregnancy.

 

It is recommended that pregnant women complete:

  • 30 mins or more of moderate exercise on most, if not all days of the week

  • Research supports starting or continuing with exercise to gain the health benefits associated with physical activity

There are numerous benefits associated with exercising during pregnancy which include:

  • Improved physical fitness

  • ↓ Incontinence 

  • ↓ Insomnia, stress, anxiety and depression 

  • ↓ Gestational diabetes 

  • ↓ Obesity 

  • ↓ Pre-eclampsia 

  • ↓ Preterm labour 

  • ↓ Diastasis Recti Abdominis (DRA)

  • ↓ Pelvic girdle, lower back and other musculoskeletal pain/injuries 

  • Faster postnatal recovery
